Guide to Linen Curtains
Looking for a modern curtain that’ll provide you with excellent light control, privacy, and an elegant finish to your space? Look no further than linen curtains!
What are linen curtains?
Linen curtains are a durable and stylish cloth curtain that helps to create an airy, open space.
How are linen curtains different from sheers?
Often compared to sheers, linen curtains can be thought of as a middle ground fabric; they're not as light and see-through as sheer curtains, nor are they as thick as blockout curtains.
If we were to create a scale:
- Sheer curtains
- Linen curtains
- Blockout curtains
Provide the most natural light and are made from thinner, translucent material.
Great for pairing with blinds, or for use in open plan living areas.
Provide plenty of natural light and have a slightly thicker material for more light control.
Good for areas where there is a high amount of direct sunlight, such as offices or bedrooms, where you want to reduce the natural light without eliminating it completely,
Provide complete block out of natural light through thier thick and opaque fabric.
Good for bedrooms or nurseries, as well as living areas or movie rooms.

Benefits of linen curtains
100% pure linen fabric
Linen curtains are 100% pure linen. They're not combined with any other fabric like cotton or polyester.
Linen helps to bring a gorgeous look and feel to your home through the texture of the fabric. This fabric allows light to filter softly through, brightening the room without flooding it with too much light.
Privacy
Linen curtains are a great curtain option for giving your home privacy. As they're thicker than a sheer, they provide that little bit more privacy and security from any prying eyes.
Great for heat regulation
Linen is an absorbent fabric, with heat-regulating properties to help keep your room cool during Perth's hot summers, and warm during the winters.
Hypoallergenic
Linen is a hypoallergenic and anti-bacterial fabric, making it a great option if anyone in your home is prone to allergies!
Best rooms to install linen curtains in
Where you install your linen curtains is entirely up to personal preference, however we do have a few recommendations!
Firstly, linen is a delicate material and is best kept out of humid or wet areas like your bathroom, laundry, or kitchen. The best window coverings for these areas are anything made of aluminium, like Aluminium Venetians or shutters.
Linen curtains are best in living areas or bedrooms where you need good light control, but don't need blockout. We suggest installing them in guest bedrooms, offices, or causal living areas.
How to clean linen curtains
The best way to clean your curtains is by spot cleaning them as you notice any marks or dirt on the fabric. This way, you're only cleaning where they need cleaning, and avoiding damaging your curtains.
To spot clean, use lukewarm soapy water and a microfibre cloth to dab the area. Make sure not to rub the fabric, otherwise this can spread the mark or cause damage.
If you need to do a deep clean, your curtains can be washed in your washing machine on a delicate rinse cycle and at either a cold or lukewarm temperature (not too warm otherwise it can damage the fabric). Always remember to follow the cleaning instructions which come with your curtains.
Can you steam or iron linen curtains?
More often than not, it's not necessary to steam your linen curtains to dry them or remove creases as they tend to dry fast, and any creases will disappear naturally.
If you have creases, you can iron them, but we recommend doing so while the linen is still slightly damp as this removes any creases at the same time as finishing drying them! Win-win.
