Guide to Venetian Blinds
Venetian blinds are one of the most affordable, versatile, and functional blind options on the market. Coming in a range of different material options, they can be installed in any room in your home without fear of being damaged. Find out more about the benefits of installing Venetian blinds below!
What are Venetian blinds?
Venetian blinds are a very versatile window covering made up of horizontal slats, which can be angled to suit your light control needs. The thin slats work well to give your home plenty of privacy, while still letting in as much light as you need.
Why choose Venetian blinds
There are many benefits to choosing Venetian blinds over other blind options. Some benefits include:
- They're child safe
- They're durable
- They're a stylish option
- They're simple to operate
- There are options which are water resistant
- There's a Venetian blind option for every room in your home
How to choose the right Venetian blind material for your room
There are four types of Venetian blinds to choose from, depending on what your needs are.
Aluminium Venetian blinds
Aluminium Venetian blinds are one of the most versatile and durable blind options to choose for your home.
These blinds are suitable for any room in your home, including wet areas like your bathroom, laundry, and kitchen, and are very simple to maintain.
The bonus of choosing Aluminium Venetians is that they are available in a wide range of colours.
Timber-look Venetian blinds
Timber-look Venetian blinds are a PVC blind option designed to look like timber.
The benefit of choosing timber-look blinds over standard timber blinds is that they are much more durable in rooms where they would be exposed to water and humidity, like your bathroom and laundry.
Basswood Venetian blinds
Basswood Venetians are an alternative to timber blinds but are much more durable.
Basswood is still a natural timber option, but this wood grain is much more resistant to moisture.
These Venetians can be installed in wet areas, but it's important to have good ventilation as they can still be prone to damage if exposed to a lot of water or moisture.
Timber Venetian blinds
Timber Venetians are a delicate and simple blind option to consider.
These Venetians are best suited to living areas and bedrooms as they need to be installed in dry environments, free of as much excess moisture as possible.
Cedar Venetian blinds
Cedar Venetians are a great option to consider in Australian homes as they are an incredibly durable blind, that can withstand harsh temperatures and humidity. This means that Cedar Venetians are another great option to consider for rooms like your bathroom, laundry, and kitchen.
Are Venetian blinds expensive?
If you're looking for budget-friendly blinds, Venetian blinds are one of the best options as they're affordable but still very effective!
Can Venetian blinds be blockout?
Venetian blinds block out a lot of the excess light coming into your home when they're fully closed, but they aren't designed to be a complete blockout product.
The best options for blockout window coverings if you want a super dark room, are fabric panel blinds or blockout curtains.
Pairing Venetian blinds with curtains
Venetian blinds are a great option to pair with both sheer curtains and blockout curtains.
Sheer curtains are great for helping to filter the incoming light and give your room a soft glow. They also add a bit more privacy when your blinds are open.
Blockout curtains are a much more suitable option if you need to create total darkness at any time of the day or night. Between blockout curtains and Venetians, you'll have the perfect amount of darkness.
How to care for Venetian blinds
Venetian blinds are one of the simplest blinds to clean. To keep the flats free of dust it's important to wipe them over with a feather duster or cloth regularly so thick layers don't build up.
A helpful tip for cleaning your Venetian blind slats is to put a clean sock over your hand and run your hand along the slats. This gets any dust out of hard to reach places!
If they need more cleaning than that, you can use a damp microfiber cloth to wipe them down. For Aluminium and Timber-look Venetians, this isn't a concern as they are more water resistant, however for Timber Venetians, it's important the cloth has all excess water wrung out, so the timber grains don't swell and your slats aren't damaged.
