Your Guide to Expertly Cleaning Your Windows And Blinds

If there’s one thing that can instantly ruin the appeal of a room, it’s grubby windows and blinds. Get rid of dust, streaks and grime and keep yours sparkling and looking brand-spanking new with these simple and effective tips for cleaning windows and blinds, whatever your budget!

Easy Household Cleaning Tips:

Before you hand over hundreds of dollars for professional window cleaning, give these methods a go. Trust us, the results are ah-mazing!

$ Low budget

If you want to clean your windows without forking over much cash, you can probably find everything you need already in your pantry at home. All you need is some distilled vinegar, a sponge, a squeegee and some hot water.

  1. Mix one part hot water to one part distilled vinegar
  2. Moisten the sponge using the vinegar mixture and clean the window
  3. Grab your squeegee, rinse it and wipe from top down, wiping the squeegee after each use
  4. Rinse the window using an all-purpose cleaner and water
  5. Dry the window with a cloth

$$ Medium budget

It’s worth purchasing a specialised window cleaning product, and there are plenty on the market, so it just depends on how much you’re willing to spend. We always recommend keeping a sponge and a squeegee for your windows and when it comes to choosing a cleaning product, for the most part, they’re all pretty similar. For smaller rooms, it’s a good idea to consider how the product smells. Ammonia-based cleaners (like Windex) are going to be the worst culprits in terms of that harsh chemical smell. Go for surface and glass wipes as an alternative (depending on how dirty your windows are!).

$$$ High budget

If your budget allows, invest in a high-powered window vacuum, like a Karcher. The best thing about these handy products is that they ensure clean, streak-free windows with minimal time and effort. Completely mobile and lightweight, they spray, clean and vacuum your window for the ultimate clean.

To clean your blinds:

Making sure your blinds stay clean is one way of extending their lifetime and getting the most out of them.

For horizontal and vertical blinds, don’t bother taking them down - they’re much easier to clean if you leave them in place! Using a vacuum with brush attachment, start at the top and move down toward the bottom. Next, with a microfiber towel and a bowl of warm, soapy water, give them a good wipe.

For fabric blinds, the best thing you can do to keep dirt and dust at bay is to vacuum them regularly.
