Why Outdoor Shutters?
Outdoor shutters are a great way to control temperature in the house any time of year! Around 87% of heat enters your home through your windows, which can feel pretty brutal in the summer months. Likewise, 40% of heat is lost through your windows during the winter, but with outdoor shutters you can easily keep heat out (or in, depending on the month).
Regular Maintenance
If you want to extend the life of your outdoor shutters, regular maintenance is key! The majority of callouts our service team receive are for jammed shutters, which is often due to a buildup of dirt, dust and other debris. To prevent this from happening, simply keep the tracks clear, and be sure to vacuum or blow out any sand or dirt inside them. We also recommend cleaning the shutters with a combination of soap (avoid abrasive cleaners and brushes) and warm water every one to two months. When it comes to your shutter bearings, add some grease to them to prevent rusting and keep the rolling mechanism moving.
Winter Maintenance
As sturdy as outdoor shutters are, it’s worth keeping in mind that they can’t withstand extreme winter weather. When winds are over 60km/h, be sure to keep your shutter panels closed. If there’s just heavy rain, you won’t need to worry!
Summer Maintenance
When the weather’s hot, it can be nice to have your outdoor shutters open to let the breeze come through. Even though this can be great for keeping you and your family cool, it’s not so great for you shutters. Underuse of your shutters can cause parts to lock up and rust, so be sure to close them from time to time during the summer months.
